In college and still haven't read Gatsby...
If you're a student in the states you might find that odd. I've not talked to a single person yet from high school that hadn't read the Great Gatsby. For some reason I wasn't assigned it in HS and since then never got around to it, even as everyone raves of it. I'm starting it immediately (finally)- what do you all think of the book? Is it a masterpiece for the ages or simply of its time? Is it a romantic work? A cynical, a naturalistic? Just trying to inspire some feedback on what has such a hype about this book. Thanks for reading and for any feedback.

Great Gatsby and Tom B.
I just finish reading Great Gatsby and I loved it! I love the way he writes and I must say it was the most lovely novel. I was also reading the analysis of the book on Sparknotes and wrote how Jay Gatsby was like the "new money" (someone who spends tons of money noticeably and have their fortunes within their lifetimes) and Tom was like the "old money" (someone who gets their fortunes from generations and from families). Can someone explain how Tom is like "old money"? I don't really agree with that. I love this book and I really would like to dicuss about this, Thanks JJ

My Opinion
I read The Great Gatsby, and I did not like it. Not because it wasn’t well-written. Fitzgerald's imagery was amazing. I just didn’t care for the story itself. Fitzgerald portrayed Gatsby, who could have been so romantic and gallant, as a pathetic bootlegger. His fatal attempt to reunite with his past love Daisy was, at best, pathetic. Please do not interpret this as a criticism of Fitzgerald’s work. This is simply the lowly opinion of an ordinary reader who has taken her liberty. What do you think?

Great Gatsby 2008
I have to do this project for my English class of making The Great Gatsby into a modern day movie script. I need some real life actors that can play the characters in the book. So if you know any please tell me. The actors need to have the same personalities as the characters in the book. I need to write a movie script, so I need to just get a list of the actors who can play those characters in the book that are living today of course, I hope that sounds more clear than in the top.

The Great Gatsby
Jay Gatsby is supposed to represent the 1920s itself. In what ways is he the embodiment of the "Roarin' Twenties" or the"Gilded Age"? How is he different? What does the cover of the book represent? (The mysterious, gypsy-like face with those strange eyes.) People say that one's eyes are the window to one's soul. If the face represents Daisy, who in turn represents the 1920s, then what is this saying about the 1920s? Any other thoughts?

Whitman believed that America was a great nation with a lot of promise. To what extent does The Great Gatsby suggest that Whitman’s vision for America has died, and to what extent does the novel suggest that Whitman’s vision still survives?
